What is Cabinet Redooring?

What is Cabinet Redooring?

Regardless of how updated a kitchen is, seemingly, in 20 years or so, it looks dated again. But the cost of remodeling the kitchen or bathroom can be somewhat prohibitive, so sometimes a custom make-over simply isn't an option. Besides, you may really like your choice of cabinet colors, just not the style of the doors so much anymore. Have you considered redooring your kitchen cabinets?

What is Redooring?

Redooring is an excellent method of upgrading your kitchen or bath without emptying the bank account and racking up debt. As it sounds, redooring involves removing the old cabinet doors and drawer fronts and replacing them with new ones to match, or accent, the existing boxes. It differs from refacing in that only the doors are treated, where refacing treats the spaces between the doors and drawers along with the doors themselves.

Is Redooring Right for Me?

Redooring is a good choice when your current doors and drawers are looking worn or you're yearning for a bit of a change. With so many door styles and colors to choose from, you can find a style that makes your kitchen pop again, especially if you add new hardware. The doors can be matched to the cabinets quite readily, and decorative hardware options are plentiful.

Cabinet Redooring costs 50-60 percent less than new cabinets

The cabinet boxes stay in place, but the layout can be altered or cabinets modified to accommodate for new or larger appliances.  We call this option Redooring Plus.

Redooring also gives you the opportunity to replace the hinges, which may be wearing out. If you have external hinges now, you may like the clean look of hidden hinges. You might also want to consider soft-close hinges that prevent door and drawer slamming. These hinges can provide a longer life span to cabinet doors and to the hinges themselves.

How Much Does Redooring Cost?

Compared to a remodel with custom cabinets, redooring can cost about 50-60 percent less. So if you're not ready to invest in a complete renovation of your kitchen or it's not necessary in your space, cabinet redooring offers a budget-friendly option to update your kitchen.

Will I Be Kicked Out of My Kitchen Long?

Redooring takes very little time, with most projects taking only one to two days. Because the cabinet boxes remain in place, your kitchen will not be out of commission except while we install the new doors and drawer fronts.
