Easy Ways to Organize Your Kitchen

Easy Ways to Organize Your Kitchen

Have you ever noticed that you function on a higher level when you are organized? You don't have to waste time looking for things you need because you know right where they are. You have space to work because everything is in its place. Best of all, you have more time to spend keeping the rest of your life working smoothly. Here are a few ways you may not have realized you can organize your kitchen, and thus, your home.

Declutter Your Cabinets

Purge

Most of the things you are keeping "just in case" you end up needing them are simply making it more difficult for you to organize. Sell it or give it away, even trash it. You'll either make money or at least be able to free up space. This includes plastic bowls that no longer have a lid and pots and pans with the non-stick coating badly scratched.

Hang Anything You Can

Position hooks and racks for keys, coats, jewelry, hair dryers, curling irons, and paper towels. Two hooks facing each other horizontally are a great way to hang boxes of aluminum foil, Press 'n' Seal, and parchment or wax paper. Whatever it is, hang it if you can.

Reorganize Your Cabinets

Pull Everything Out and Sort It

Take everything out of your cabinets. Place similar items together, placing canned foods separate from boxed items and bagged items separate from those.

Replace

Put everything back into the cabinets, rearranging if you see that you can make more fit with a different arrangement. Place items as close to where you will be using them as possible and frequently used items toward the front.

Utilize Unused Space to Free Up Room

For less frequently used items, especially canned goods, use a sturdy metal shelf in the laundry room.

Keep Lids with Containers

If a particular set of plastic bowls is not conducive to storing with the lids on, stack the bowls and put the lids on top. Then, go around the stack once with Press 'n' Seal. If you can't find the lid when you need it, the bowl is no good to you. This, by the way, goes for pots and pans, as well.

Hang a Cookbook Shelf

Hang a shelf for your cookbooks away from heat and water.

Store Cleaning Supplies on the Lowest Shelf

Never put them close to or above food. This will prevent contamination.

It Doesn't Stop There

Utilizing and organizing drawers and countertops also go a long way toward organizational success.
